The Type 1 plug is also known as Yazaka plug. You find it on the older examples of the Nissan Leaf, for example, and also on the Opel Ampèra E. There are also several plug-in hybrids such as the Toyota Prius Plug-In and the Mitsubishi Outlandder PHEV that are charged with a Type 1 plug. This plug is suitable for normal charging at the AC charger. In doing so, the charging rate is up to 19 kW. Meanwhile, the Type 1 plug is almost non-existant and may therefore be considered obsolete.
-
The Type 2 plug is the standard plug for almost all electric cars. This plug is the most commonly used plug for public and private charging points. The Type 2 plug is suitable for both 1-phase and 3-phase AC charging and can handle charging speeds of up to 44 KW
-
The CCS Combo plug, which means 'Combined Charging System', is basically a Type 2 plug with two extra pins underneath. Those two extra pins are for DC fast charging. This is a fairly rapidly energing 'standard' and so there are more and more fast-charging stations equipped with both a CHAdeMo and a CCS Combo connection. Again, this is a fixed cable, so one does not need to use one's own charging cable.
-
The CHAdeMo plug is only used at DC fast chargers along transit routes and highways. Normal AC chargers, both public and non-public, usuaLly have a fixed charging cable with a CHAdeMo connection.
